Jesus often spoke in parables: simple stories to illustrate spiritual lessons. In the parable of the farmer sowing seeds (Mark 4:26-34), Jesus says that the kingdom of God is like someone who scatters seed. The seed would sprout and grow and the farmer does not know how. “The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head” (vs. 28). There is a certain “mystery” behind the parables of Jesus. Some would even call them open mysteries: stories of wisdom hidden in broad daylight for everyone to hear, yet not everyone will understand. What do you see in this story? How is the kingdom of God mysteriously growing in your own life? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you ears to hear and eyes to see the open mystery of God’s kingdom. Then you will surely reap the harvest of his unfailing love!
